Homeland Security Initiatives Demonstrated by NAVAIR, Microlanguage and ObjectFX
Companies Partner to Develop Opportunities for Integrated Applications of Their Technologies
Amherst, NY--August
30, 2002 -- Microlanguage (microlanguage.com), whose Thematix
intelligent language processing technology enriches knowledge management
and information extraction applications, and ObjectFX (www.objectfx.com),
whose SpatialFX Platform is the foundation for location-based
applications and services, announced today that they have formed
a partnership for developing and marketing integrated applications
of Thematix and SpatialFX for homeland security as well as other
federal and commercial market segments.
The two companies
initially joined forces with the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR)
to develop a proof-of-principle, data visualization application
aimed at helping intelligence analysts predict the nature, target
and timing of threats to homeland security. The PC-based application
was demonstrated in, and formed the centerpiece of NAVAIR's exhibit
at the Information Sharing and Homeland Security (ISHS) conference
held in Philadelphia earlier this month. That collaboration, and
the enthusiastic response from NAVAIR and conference attendees prompted
Microlanguage and ObjectFX to form the partnership announced today.
"We partnered
with ObjectFX because of our very favorable experience integrating
Thematix with their SpatialFX Platform, and the extraordinary levels
of support they provide to their integration partners," said
Robert Fritzinger, Microlanguage president and CEO. "We selected
ObjectFX for the proof-of-principle demonstration largely on the
strengths of their technology and technical support. We looked at
several alternatives, and found no other provider of Java-based
GIS products that could deliver the performance, development tools
and support we required."
"Our efforts
with Microlanguage deliver the ability for quick and productive
analysis of information due to its delivery in a visual format geographically
over time," said Tim Devine, president and CEO of ObjectFX.
"The combination of SpatialFX's visual delivery along side
Microlanguage's unique and advanced language processing tool kit
allows for responsive and predictive analysis that has utility in
a variety of commercial and government applications."
"What we
demonstrated at the ISHS conference as a Government-led integrated
solutions-oriented team was nothing short of profound," said
Gary Lohman, Senior Engineer and Project Lead for Knowledge-Based
Systems Development with the Surface Communications and Information
Systems Division of the Naval Air Systems Command. "Instead
of simply using clever rules or statistics with representation graphics
to organize thousands of information points, we first reduced the
number of information points without loss of accuracy, precision
or reproducibility of results. Then we organized and mapped the
tens or hundreds of information points that were relevant to the
target "concept" to better empower the decision-maker
with the knowledge to render timely decisions that influence actions.
Finally, we demonstrated this profound architecture by integrating
innovative commercial off the shelf toolkits, thus demonstrating
the ability to cost-effectively create customized solutions for
organizations that need to manage very large amounts of information."
Microlanguage's
Thematix intelligent language processing technology enables systems
integrators to deliver stronger knowledge management (KM) and information
extraction applications, and portal information providers to deliver
more robust information services to Global 2000 enterprise customers
and government agencies. Microlanguage delivers Thematix in two
forms: an SDK that enables application developers and system integrators
to integrate Thematix with KM, CRM, and data visualization solutions,
and in the form of custom applications that service unique end-user
requirements.
