Microlanguage Receives Technology Fund Investment
$250,000 Equity Investment Follows an ESD Grant in April
Amherst, NY--September
10, 2002 -- Microlanguage (microlanguage.com), whose intelligent
language processing technology enriches knowledge management and
information extraction applications, announced today that they have
been approved by the Empire State Development (ESD) Board of Directors
to receive a $250,000 equity investment from the Small Business
Technology Investment Fund (SBTIF). The investment follows a $100,000
grant from ESD in April of this year.
"This investment
brings Microlanguage another step closer to assembling the capital
that will fund our product and business development strategies over
the next 9-12 months," said Robert Fritzinger, president and
CEO of Microlanguage. "It also underscores the confidence the
investment community is expressing in Microlanguage, and will help
fuel our emergence as a leading provider of concept extraction technology
and data visualization applications."
Microlanguage's
Thematix intelligent language processing technology improves the
precision and performance of knowledge management (KM) and information
extraction applications and the information services that portal
information providers deliver to Global 2000 enterprise customers
and government agencies. Microlanguage delivers Thematix in two
forms: an SDK that enables application developers and system integrators
to integrate Thematix with KM, CRM, and data visualization applications,
and embedded, custom applications that service unique end-user requirements.
The SBTIF, which
is administered by ESD, was created in an effort to provide start-up
high-tech companies throughout New York State with a source of venture
capital to promote new job creation and economic growth. Fritzinger
said, "We're fortunate to live in a state that affords Microlanguage
access to public sources of investment capital the likes of which
the SBTIF provides."
Charles A. Gargano,
Chairman of ESD said, "The SBTIF currently has a portfolio
value estimated at more than $40 million, an increase in valuation
by over 2.6 times its 1995 value. The Fund's success has allowed
us to continue to satisfy the original legislative intent of using
its revolving returns to continue making investments in promising
companies such as Microlanguage at no expense to taxpayers."
"Companies
like Microlanguage are going to be the leaders in the resurgence
of the new Buffalo Niagara economy," said Tom Kucharski, president
and CEO of Buffalo Niagara Enterprise and Erie County IDA. "We're
happy that this investment will help them to continue to grow and
become a leader in their industry. They're a great example of a
smart company who is taking advantage of our people, product and
services."
Cian Robinson,
Executive Director of InfoTech Niagara said, "We congratulate
Empire State Development and Chairman Gargano for creating the SBTIF
and for having the vision to invest in a highly promising company
like Microlanguage. It has been a privilege to help Microlanguage
obtain the necessary funds to facilitate their growth. We look forward
to our continued involvement in Microlanguage's emergence as a leading
provider of concept extraction and data visualization technologies."
