Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding that we may not have answered all of your questions, we offer the following information:

  1. How is Microlanguage funded?

Microlanguage is privately funded through founder's capital, grants, public loan capital, and private placement investments.

  2. Is Microlanguage a component software provider or a solution provider?

Microlanguage is a provider of component software products that are integrated with knowledge management solutions.

  3. What kinds of companies use Microlanguage's technology?

Knowledge management solution providers, Portal Information providers, and Global 2000 enterprise end-users.

  4. What are Microlanguage's target markets?

Bioinformatics, Financial, National Security, Manufacturing and High Technology.

  5. Isn't Microlanguage just selling a better search engine?

Actually, no. Microlanguage's Thematix™ technology enables third party knowledge management products to function with much greater precision and a more comprehensive understanding of human language. Thematix technology offers a substantial improvement over conventional search technology at the heart of knowledge management applications. Thematix becomes an integral part of the knowledge management application, and can also be used with next generation concept extraction, indexing, authoring, and data visual solutions.

  6. What is the difference between “Concept Extraction” and “Search” technologies?

Search technologies are generally incapable of overcoming the effects language complexity (e.g. multiple meanings, punctuation) have on fully understanding what knowledge a user is seeking. Search technologies index every word in every document to identify search terms, a process that is memory intensive and not very effective at finding the knowledge a user requires. Concept extraction begins with an understanding of the user's need prior to indexing, and leverages this understanding to very efficiently and effectively locate and store knowledge of interest to the user. Through this process, unstructured text or data is directly converted to actionable information or knowledge without requiring the user to read through all the information returned by a search.

  7. Can Microlanguage's Thematix technology really key actionable results?

Yes. Microlanguage's technology delivers information products with such precision that results can actually be actionable - that is they can be linked to automated processes. If you find this idea intriguing, contact us and we'll tell you more about how Microlanguage can power your application.

  8. What are the platform server requirements for your product?

That really depends on the application, but Microlanguage Thematix runs on any Windows-based, 32 bit operating system, including Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows XP, and will, in the near future, run on Linux and UNIX.

  9. What types of knowledge management tools are prime for Microlanguage's technology?

Content management systems, enterprise knowledge management systems, index servers, search and retrieval systems, authoring tools and data visualization tools.

  10. Is Microlanguage's technology functionally restricted to the English language?

No. It has no language barriers, since the parsing engine runs on any human language, or any other symbolic system, including phonemes and music. Grammarbases™ are created using an authorizing tool that is language dependent (the current authoring tool is written for English speaking users).

  11. What does Microlanguage charge for its technology?

The cost of an implementation is typically a function of the size of the grammarbase development project, the complexity of the integration task, the number of servers on which our software is installed, and a few other factors. If you're interested in receiving a proposal, please fill out an information request or contact our Sales Office.

  12. As a middleware product, who is responsible for integrating it with an OEM's knowledge management product?

Microlanguage works with a variety of leading systems integrators that can fill that role, but also partners with the OEM to ensure that our technology is seamlessly integrated with their product. Microlanguage assumes the responsibility for ensuring that the end-solution is complete and functioning to the satisfaction of the end-user.

  13. Must I have an army of high-priced linguists on my staff to use your product?

No. Microlanguage designed its authoring tool for use by non-linguists. Except in special circumstances, Microlanguage will develop the grammarbases you will need, and will work with you (and your client) to ensure that the grammarbases meet the precise requirements. Our business model and support capabilities are tuned to deliver this service to our channel partners.

  14. Is there a white paper on your technology?

Yes, in fact we have several documents on our technology available from our Download center.

  15. How do I buy your product or technology?

If you are a systems integrator, portal information provider, or an OEM that is interested in bundling our technology with yours, you may order directly from us. If you are an OEM that sells strictly through systems integrators, please have your channel partners contact us. If you are an enterprise end-user, please mention to your systems integrator(s) that you are interested in a Microlanguage embedded solution.
